What to Expect
If you are considering psychological service support for your child, you’re already feeling concerned, anxious or frustrated about some aspect of your child’s development or behavior. Dr. Sarah’s goal is to make it easy for you to access the support your family needs as quickly as possible.
To begin our work together, you only need to know that you are concerned about your child – nothing else! You don’t need to have any clue what (if any!) diagnosis might best describe your child or what you hope to get out of seeking support…that is often a big part of our initial work together.
Once you contact Dr. Sarah via phone or email, you can expect to hear back from her within 48 hours, often sooner. Email is your best bet for reaching her most promptly. Dr. Sarah will help you schedule a time to come in to the office for an intake appointment. She will ask you to read the policies and fill out the forms found in the Forms and Policies section of this website. Please fill these out in advance of the appointment and bring them with you.
Intake appointments typically last 60 minutes and involve caregivers and the child for whom you seek support. Of course, if you have reservations about bringing your child to this initial appointment, Dr. Sarah is available to discuss and address these concerns with you. The last few minutes of the intake session will be spent agreeing upon next best steps and scheduling future appointments.
From your very first session, you can expect compassionate, non-judgmental care that is tailored to the needs of your child and your family. By the time they seek help, many parents have begun to doubt their own skills as a parent, wondering what role they might have played in the issues that have arisen. In addition to supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral development of your child, Dr. Sarah aims to support you as a parent. She sees you as the expert on your own child and you can expect to be an active participant in your child’s care every step of the way. Dr. Sarah will work with you to develop insight and skills that empower you in your daily life as a parent. In addition, many parents find relief in a safe space to problem-solve and process emotions related to parenting. Dr. Sarah welcomes the opportunity to provide such a space for you during individual parent sessions.
